We are a successful civil contracting business who has been operating in Australia for over 35 years. With the agility and personal connection of a Tier 2, yet the expertise of a Tier 1, and the enhanced resources of one of the largest, world-class construction companies, VINCI, our employees and clients get the best of three worlds.
As a progressive, leading civil engineering firm built on the strong foundations of our unique history, we engage, enable and empower our people to be better. With you, we are altogether stronger, in building the future we want.
We are mobilising for a major iconic project in Perth that involves engineering design, earthworks, roadworks, buildings, and services.
The Design Manager plays a critical role in maximising opportunities and returns for Seymour Whyte by leading the efficient and innovative management of design processes during both submission preparation and project delivery. This role ensures design solutions are aligned with client expectations, project requirements, and commercial objectives—while driving value, minimising risk, and enabling seamless integration between design and construction teams.
About the role:
- Design Management Leadership: Lead and manage all aspects of the design process across project phases, including consultant engagement, design programming, review, and compliance with technical, statutory, and performance requirements.
- Risk, Quality & Compliance: Maintain risk registers, manage design-related risks and opportunities, ensure adherence to Design Management Plans, statutory approvals, and safety-in-design principles, while driving compliance with HSEQ responsibilities.
- Stakeholder & Consultant Coordination: Act as the key interface between designers, construction teams, and clients, ensuring scope alignment, timely communication of changes, and effective management of consultant performance and deliverables.
- Value Engineering & Innovation: Champion innovation and value engineering throughout design and bid phases, identifying cost/time-saving opportunities while maintaining design integrity and meeting project objectives.
- Commercial & Contractual Oversight: Negotiate and manage consultancy agreements, monitor consultant budgets and variations, contribute to bid and EOI submissions, and ensure design elements align with the company’s commercial and profitability goals.
The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent, with RPEQ or CPEng status highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of civil and structural design processes, with the ability to engage in technical discussions and manage design during tender and delivery phases.
- Proven experience in design and construct civil infrastructure projects, ideally for State or Federal government clients, with knowledge of the estimation process to support tender and EOI submissions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage small teams, including subcontractors and consultants, while fostering collaborative working relationships.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the capability to liaise effectively across diverse project teams and stakeholders.
We have a range of additional benefits available for our employees:
- Health & Wellbeing – discounted health insurance, seasonal vaccinations, wellness discounts, fertility benefit and employee assistance program (EAP).
- Time for life / Work life balance – birthday leave, purchased leave program, paid parental leave and flexible work arrangements.
- Financial wellbeing – competitive remuneration, annual performance bonuses, salary continuance insurance and employee share program.
- Career development – training, mentoring programs, and leadership development program.
Many of our projects are located in regional areas, therefore all applicants must hold a current Driver’s Licence and have their own transport.
