About the role:

As Project Director, you’ll be responsible for leading our upcoming road, rail, and hydro projects in Queensland, driving the team to deliver a range of exciting initiatives in the region. As part of this position, you will be accountable for driving the project team's performance through clear and concise communication of company standards, policies, and procedures. Additionally, you'll be tasked with fostering and maintaining positive working relationships with our valued staff and clients to ensure seamless project execution. Drawing upon your exceptional planning and construction control skills, you'll be responsible for overseeing the project from beginning to end, ensuring it meets design requirements, time constraints, and stays within budget objectives.   • Manage major projects in the road, rail, and hydro sectors in Queensland, up to the value >$5B, including developing and reviewing the construction plan and monitoring the progress of allocated projects to ensure they are on schedule and within quality and cost estimates.
  • Authorise construction planning, programming, and on-site completion schedules and liaise with the Regional Construction Manager/ Operations Manager over completion dates for different phases of construction.
  • Monitor obligations imposed by performance specifications.
  • Identify and cost abnormal risks in tender documents.
  • Formulate/ prepare major contractual claims.
  • Liaise with consultants with regard to project design plans and variations.
  • Preparation and reporting of project budgets, including corrective actions and deviations, and reports to the Construction Manager/EMT and to client committees (e.g., Alliance Boards) where applicable.

The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or its equivalent.
  • 10+ years post-graduate experience as Project Director, within a Principal Contractor environment.
  • Experience in managing hard dollar projects >$5B in project value.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Suite).
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulate performance objectives for staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive the program to meet project objectives.
  • Experience in leading and motivating teams safely during project completion.
  • Ability to formulate/prepare contractual claims and variations.
  • Detailed knowledge of head and subcontract agreements pertaining to specific projects.
  • Ability to develop and implement a budget and forecasts.
  • Ability to mentor teams including implementation of succession planning as required.
  • Experience in self-performed construction operations.
