Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre:
Seymour Whyte, in a Joint Venture with Vinci Grande Projects and Beca, have been selected by ICON water to embark on the Design and Construct upgrade of the Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre (LMWQCC), the ACT’s primary wastewater treatment facility and the largest of its kind in inland Australia. This 4-year project will modernise the plant’s handling system while preparing for future growth and potential updates to air emission standards. Located near central Canberra, the project will enhance and support the region’s critical infrastructure.

As an Occupational Hygienist you will be responsible for managing health risks on a major construction project in the ACT. This role focuses on identifying, assessing, and controlling exposure to occupational hazards, with a strong emphasis on silica dust, noise, vibration, and diesel emissions in line with ACT-specific regulatory requirements.
About the role:
- Conduct occupational hygiene risk assessments in accordance with ACT WHS legislation and Safe Work Australia’s model codes 1.
- Monitor exposure to airborne contaminants (e.g., respirable crystalline silica, diesel particulate matter), noise, and vibration using approved methodologies 2.
- Develop and implement hygiene management plans, including Silica Dust Control Plans and Noise Management Plans, tailored to ACT construction environments 3.
- Provide technical advice on control measures, including ventilation, PPE, and administrative controls 4.
- Deliver training and toolbox talks to raise awareness of occupational health risks and controls 5.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational Hygiene, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Occupational Hygiene (preferred).
- Certification or membership with a recognized professional body (e.g., AIOH, BOHS, CIH).
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in occupational hygiene, with at least 2 years on major construction or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of occupational health legislation and standards (e.g., WHS Act, Safe Work Australia Codes and familiarity with ACT specific WHS legislation).
- Proficiency in hygiene monitoring equipment and interpreting analytical data.
